Put a pool on the roof
Posted on February 6th, 2011 No commentsOn Saturday, I helped put a pool on the roof. In some sort of terms, anyway.
My father-in-law lost a 10 foot by 3 foot section of shingles from his roof during the blizzard. Well, it is too cold to get new shingles up (you want it to be warm, so they won’t bend and crack), so the temporary fix was to nail down some sheet metal.
It just so happens, in my father-in-law’s goal to never throw anything away that might be useful several years from now, that he had the metal side wall from the old pool still taking up space in storage. So, we spent Saturday afternoon on the roof, fitting pieces of the puzzle into the whole in the roof.
In all honesty, the task at hand seemed much worse than it actually was. That being said, the hardest part is yet to come, and that is properly fixing the roof when the weather is warm enough to support such an endeavor.

Photos and Movies, what a treat…
Posted on February 3rd, 2011 2 commentsWow, do I have a treat for you! First, I have uploaded a bunch of pictures from January and February, from Gus’s birthday up through the water main break (today). Check them all out here! (titles and captions under each photograph, an extra bonus just for you)
But of course, I am not done yet. I took a second to load a couple of movies too. You will have to adventure out to my channel on YouTube to glance at these, but I guarantee you will not be disappointed!

What is that rumbling?
Posted on January 28th, 2011 No commentsDo you hear that rumbling coming from my basement? No? Well that is good. If you go in my basement, then you will definitely notice it. It is the sound of rocks being polished!
For Christmas, Gus got a rock tumbler, and for 5 days now, it has been churning away at making plain dull rocks into “jewelry quality gems.” We finished phase 1 last night, which used the course grit. Now we are into phase 2, which uses the fine grit. This phase lasts almost three weeks! After that finishes, phase 3 only lasts for a couple of days, and is the polishing part. Then we do whatever we do with our new gems (make jewelry, throw them at each other, or put them in a box and forget about them).
Gus was excited when he saw how much the stones had changed in the past few days. I am curious to know, once this whole process is over, if he will want to do it again?

The quest for the iPad g2
Posted on January 20th, 2011 No commentsOK, so if you check my little counter, I am now at 38% of $500 saved for my iPad purchase. Yeah! I think I am making good progress. Of course, that is if there is even a 2nd generation iPad coming out.
In case you are not keeping track (and I don’t know how you couldn’t be?), here is the latest and greatest in the iPad rumor mill of new features I care about:
- front facing camera (for FaceTime)
- rear facing camera (for augmented reality)
- sd card slot (for expandable memory)
- ‘retina display’ (current screen is 1024×768, bump up to 2048×1536)
- new apple a5 processor (More power! You’re darn right more power!)
- $599 {ugh} bottom price (up from $499, messes up my savings for the device)
- 128gb max internals (up from 64gb, but if it has sd card slot, then blah)
Many thanx to engadget for keeping track of the goodness for me!
